THE AGRICULTURAL AGE

Agriculture is defined as the art and science of the production of both plants and animals which are useful to man.

Agriculture as an occupation had a great effect on the life of the early man in Nigeria.

Some archaeologists argue that the first domestication of plants and animal occurred in Anatolia, Iran and Iraq where goats and cattle were reared. Later on, the idea of agriculture was acquired by the Egyptians from where it spread to the whole of African countries including Nigeria.

Note that the early man started a more comprehensive and modern life of producing food for himself during this period. They did not live in the caves as in the case of the early stone, middle stone, and late stone ages respectively.
