In view of the perceived conflict, some peaceful moves were made to prevent it. Notable among these peaceful moves were:

  1. The Aburi Accord of Ojukwu and Gowon under the Chairmanship of Ankrah of Ghana
  2. The establishment of an ad-hoc national conference by Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon.
  3. The Addis Ababa peace move.
