SPECIALIZED AGENCIES OF THE UNO

The specialized agencies of UNO are independent bodies established to help actualize the main objectives of the United Nations. These agencies are co-ordinated by the ECOSOC and they are:

  1. World Health Organization (WHO).
  2. International Labour Organization (ILO).
  3. Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
  4. International Monetary Fund (IMF).
  5. United National International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
  6. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). 
  7. International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) also known as World Bank.

 

REASONS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THESE AGENCIES

  1. To help integrate the interest of the nations of the world.
  2. To help alleviate international disputes.
  3. To help promote international peace and security.
  4. To help harmonize the interest of the diverse cultures of the world by bringing them together.
