THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL (ECOSOC):

This is an umbrella of the United Nations specialized agencies that help to promote international co-operation and development in various fields of human endeavour. The specialized agencies are ILO, IMP, UNESCO, FAO etc.

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

  1. To guarantee economic, social, cultural, educational and health welfare of the international community through its specialized agencies.
  2. Recommends to the General Assembly matters relating to economic, social, cultural, educational, health and welfare of the people worldwide.
  3. The council helps to promote human rights and fundamental freedom.
  4. It co-ordinates the activities of the specialized agencies of the UNO.
