RULE OF LAW AND THE STATE

Law as rules and regulations in a state helps to regulate and control human conduct and behaviours. In every society/state, the law exists and serves as one of the basic principles that guide and govern the state. Law is a synthesis of order and justice.

In this light, therefore, the rule of law as observed and applied in a state must as a matter of necessity help to ensure:

  1. Orderliness.
  2. Fairness, equity and justice.
  3. Protection of lives and property.
  4. Peaceful and harmonious co-existence among the people.

To achieve these objectives, it is the duty of the state government to ensure that rule of law is observed and applied in all spheres of the citizens’ lives, no matter “who is who” in the society.
