Constitutional Contributions and Achievements of Military Rule From 1966-1979.

  1. The creation of 12 states in May, 1967 and 19 states in February 1976 respectively.Note: Gowon’s regime created 12 states while Murtala’s regime created 19 states.
  2. Establishment of many new federal universities.
  3. The introduction of Land Use Decree.
  4. Established Abuja as the new F.C.T in 1975.
  5. Introduced National Youth Service Corps in 1973.
  6. Introduced new local government structure.
  7. Public Commissions of enquiry and bureau for code of conduct was introduced by the military.
