TYPES OF MOBILITY OF LABOUR

OCCUPATIONAL MOBILITY OF LABOUR

The movement of labour from one type of occupation to another E.g. A bus driver leaving his profession to take p another job as a messenger in a big firm.

GEOGRAPHICAL MOBILITY OF LABOUR

The movement of labour from one area where job opportunities are less to area where job opportunities abound. E.g. one leaving Owerri for Lagos in search of employment. 

INDUSTRIAL MOBILITY OF LABOUR

The movement of a worker from one industry to another. The industrial mobility of labour is subdivided into two namely;

  1. Vertical industrial mobility of labour, which is the movement of a worker from one industry to another on promotion of status. E.g. A university English language lecturer moving from his former job to a big Newspaper publishing house as the Editor-in-chief.
  2. Horizontal industrial mobility of labour, which is the movement of a worker from an industry to another industry on the same status and responsibility. e.g. A driver in a ministry changing to a big Bank as a driver.
