Iginuwa, Benin priest, migrated southwards and settled during the reign of Oba Olua in the 15th Century. There were claims that the Itsekiri met Ijaw and Urhobo and Yoruba elements and they mingled.
Hence, the Itsekiri occupied the lower western Delta zone and its capital was located at Ode-Itsekiri.
However, the powerful kingdom reached its climax in the reign of Nana who engaged European intruders in an unequal battle.
