THE SOCIO-POLITICAL ORGANISATION OF ITSEKIRI — History Keypoint

THE SOCIO-POLITICAL ORGANISATION OF ITSEKIRI

A king (an Olu) who performed both political and chieftaincy functions ruled the kingdom. He was assisted by a council of Ojoya headed by the Prime Minister (Ologbotshera).

There were other councils like the Iyasere (war Lord), Uwangua etc. Both the Olu and the council constitute the supreme legislative and judiciary arms of the government.

The elders on their own part governed the village while the priest played an important role in the government.
