THE GREAT TREK

This took place between 1836 and 1841. This Great Trek by the Boers in 1836 was undertaken due to their dislike for British rule which curtailed their freedom and power over their coloured counterparts and their slaves as well. Some of their restraints as regards the British laws include:

  • The British laws provided that masters can be sued by their coloured workers.
  • It provided that all men (white and Black) are equal.
  • It granted freedom to slaves i.e. it abolished the slave.
  • It reduced the control the Boers had over labour and their employees.
