The people of Benin were agriculturists and produced pepper; palm oil and palm kernel. They exported their products to others. Again, the Benin artworks were one of the best in the whole world. They equally traded with the Yorubas and other people of the North.
In addition, they derived wealth from the Oba’s monopoly called Royal revenue.
However, some of the prominent Benin kings were:-
- Ewuare the great – A warrior and the greatest of all Benin Obas.
- Oba Ozolua – He consolidated Oba Ewuare and extended the empire to Ekiti and Ijebu.
- Oba Esigie – He was dynamic, diplomatic, and philanthropic. He had honour in Benin kingdom.
