MEANING OF CIVIC EDUCATION

Civic Education is a subject meticulously designed, to teach students the principles of go citizenship.

It can be broadly defined as the theoretical and practical study of the basic and fundamental principles of good citizenship, rights and duties; rights and duties of citizens to each other as members of the society, as well as citizens’ rights and duties to the government and government’s duties to the citizens.

Civic Education can also be defined as all the lifelong processes that affect people’s beliefs, commitments, capabilities and actions as members or prospective members of communities.

This is because Civic Education need not be intentional or deliberate; institutions and communities transmit values and norms without meaning. So, an local engagement that involves the people’s families, governments religions, and the mass media are form of Civic Education.
