GROWTH OF NATIONALISM IN NIGERIA

Nationalism in Nigeria grew up in two stages namely:

i. The spontaneous resistance of tribal groups and communities, especially the traditional ruler’s reaction to the delimitation of their authority by the British administration.

ii. The more organized movements and articulate demands by the Nigerian nationalists, which was aimed at eradicating colonial rule in Nigeria.

The nationalist movement against colonialism took the form of an attack on British colonial policies through the Newspapers and petitions that finally led to the establishment of constitutional conferences to fashion out an acceptable constitution for the people of Nigeria.
