Erosion Types — Geography Keypoint

Erosion Types

SPLASH EROSION: Is the removal of soil particles due to the force of all the rain drops.

SHEET EROSION: This occurs when water runs off slowly over the surface of the soil.

GULLY EROSION: This is another type of erosion that occurs as a result of the accumulation of large volume of water in a narrow channel, which leads to the removal or wearing away of the topsoil from this narrow channel to a considerable depth.

RILL EROSION: This type of erosion occurs when a small channel develops into a depth of several centimeters, which is brought about by the impact of rain drops on weaker portions of the soil. It occurs more on sandy soils.
