Chemical Properties of Ethene

1. Combustion – it burns in oxygen to produce water and carbon (iv) oxide

C2H4(g) + 3O2(g)  →  2H2O(L)

2. Addition reaction –it undergoes addition reactions with some atoms like hydrogen, chlorine etc to form a saturated compound.

C2H4(g) + H2(g) →  C2H6(g)

3. Polymerization – It is the combination of two or more small molecules (monomers) to form a larger molecule (polymers).
