THE ECONOMY OF OYO

The Oyo people were agriculturist coupled with revenue collected from trade with the people of Nupe, Ijebu, Egba and so on.

Again, they were gjfted craftsmen and they traded on articles like bronze and brass, kolanuts, salt, horses etc,, and earned a lot of money.

Moreover, apart from collecting taxes and tributes from vassal states’ they also engaged in slave trading with the European in the 18th century.
