  4. NNPC supervises the oil companies in their exploration, drilling and production of crude oil.
  5. NNPC arranges for the refining of petroleum into its various components like petrol, diesel and kerosene.
  6. It also monitors and supervises the allied industries on behalf of the federal government.
  7. It equally approves and supervises the installation of oil depots at strategic places.
  8. It represents the country in the organization of petroleum exporting countries (OPEC)
