Major soil zones in Nigeria

1. Coastal Swamps:

This soil zone is also known as alluvial soil and they are mainly found along the coast of Nigeria.
This type of soil zone can be found in areas occupied by the mangrove Swamp forest like the Niger Delta areas of Port-Harcourt, Calabar and Warn.

2. Rainforest Soil Zone:

This soil zone covers part of Enugu, Anambra, Cross Rivers, Ogun, etc. The rainforest soils are very good and suitable for plantation farming like Rubbe Cocoa, Oil palm etc.

3. Lateritic Soil zone:

This very zone occupies areas with long period of dry season with alternating wet season.
They can be found in the interior part of Nigeria covering places like Kaduna, Kebbi, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Benue, Kwara, Bauchi etc.

4. Loess & Sandy Soil Zone:

This soil zone is formed directly from parent materials and they can be found mainly in the extreme North like Kano, Borno, Yobe, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kastina etc.
