Macgregor Larid’s Expedition:

Larid formed a company in 1831 in Liverpool with the aim of setting up a trading place on the Nigerian coast.

The following year; he left for Africa in the company of Richard Lander, Dr. Oldfield, and thirty-seven others.

The expedition was not successful because thirty-two men died of tropical diseases. Richard Lander died from a gun-shot wound. Others returned home alive in 1834.
