Classification by type

By type, computers are classified as follows:

(a) Analogue (b) Digital and (c) Hybrid.

A. Analogue Computers:

These are computers that operate on data in the form of continuous variable physical quantity like the temperature, pressure and voltage. The value changes continuously.

B. Digital Computers:

This type of computer process data in discrete forms. They use binary numbers like 0 and 1 to represent information. It gives the exact values of data without approximations. Examples are digital watches, digital meters, digital calculators etc.

C. Hybrid:

This type combines the attributes of the analogue and digital computers. It functions both with continuous and discrete forms. Examples are electronic calculating scales used in food store.
