BRIEF HISTORY OF HIV/AIDS

The virus HIV/Aids was discovered by Professor Robert Gallows of the U.S.A and his team of researchers in the year 1981.

It was common among gay men (homosexuals) from the U.S.A and it spread with speed to the whole world.

However, in Africa, about 6,000 people die of this disease every day and about 9,500 more become infected. In Nigeria, this disease was witnessed first in 1985 after which it spread like wildfire to all nooks and crannies of the federation.

Nigeria numbers about 150 million people and 220,000 people die of Aids each year and about 350,000 more become newly infected.
