TYPES OF PRESSURE GROUPS

  1. Economic Pressure Group: This type of pressure group sees to ‘the economic well being of its members, it is mainly made up of producers and manufacturers who fight to protect their business interest. Examples are Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), National Employers Consultative Association (NECA) etc.
  2. Occupational Pressure Group: This is a professional body that is made up of workers of the same occupation. Their aim is to protect the interest of its members and foster a good welfare as well. This group consists of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
  3. Religious Pressure Group: As the name implies, it is an association of people that belong to the same religion. Their aim is to protect their respective religious practices. E.g. Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
